What is testosterone?
Testosterone is the primary sex hormone in men, and it plays many important roles in the development and health of the male body. The production of testosterone starts to increase during puberty significantly. This increase is one of the primary causes of the physiological changes that occur during and after puberty. It is associated with many aspects of the male body, including:
- Sperm production
- The development and function of male reproductive organs
- The production and maintenance of muscle and bone mass
Body hair
Testosterone is also produced by the ovaries in women but in much smaller quantities.
